Midwifery Care

Trusted, award-winning care recognised for excellence in client experience

We are a private midwifery practice providing continuity of care from pregnancy through birth and the early postnatal period. We believe every woman deserves to be known, heard, and supported by a midwife she trusts—not just during labour, but throughout her entire journey into motherhood.

Continuity of midwifery care is shown to improve outcomes for both mothers and babies, increasing safety, reducing interventions, and enhancing overall satisfaction with the birth experience. Just as importantly, it fosters a deep relationship of trust and emotional safety, allowing women to feel calm, confident, and empowered in their choices.

Our care is holistic, evidence-based, and deeply personal—centred around supporting you and your family every step of the way.

Home Birth Package

Our Home birth Package offers deeply personalised, continuous care designed to support you to birth in the comfort and safety of your own home.

Your journey begins with comprehensive antenatal appointments in our clinic, where we take the time to build a trusting relationship, understand your values, and prepare you for birth and early parenthood. From 37 weeks, your care transitions into your home, allowing us to support you in your own environment as you prepare to welcome your baby.

When labour begins, you will be attended by two known midwives—familiar faces who understand what matters most to you and your family. We provide calm, attentive, evidence-based care throughout your birth, remaining with you for several hours afterwards to ensure you are comfortable, supported, and confidently settling in with your baby.

Your care continues beyond birth with all postnatal visits provided in your home for up to seven weeks. During this time, we offer ongoing support with feeding, newborn care, and your physical and emotional recovery—ensuring you feel nurtured, informed, and never alone.

Hospital Birth Support Package

Our Hospital Birth Support Package offers the same continuity of care as our home birth model, thoughtfully adapted for families planning to birth in hospital.

Your care begins with comprehensive antenatal appointments in our clinic, continuing until 37 weeks. From this point, your appointments transition into your home, allowing for personalised preparation and support as you approach labour in your own environment.

When labour begins, your midwife will provide early labour care in your home, offering calm, experienced guidance to help you understand when it is the right time to transfer to hospital. As independent midwives who are not credentialed within hospitals, we remain by your side as your advocates—ensuring you feel safe, heard, and respected while your hospital team provides clinical care.

After birth, all postnatal care is provided in your home for up to seven weeks, supporting your recovery, feeding journey, and adjustment into life with your baby.

This package also includes access to our supportive birth tools and resources:

  • Fairy lights for a calm birthing environment

  • Wireless TENS machine

Antenatal & Postnatal Care

Our Antenatal and Postnatal Care service offers flexible, personalised support throughout your pregnancy and early parenting journey—whether you choose this as a complete package or as standalone antenatal or postnatal care.

Your antenatal care begins in our clinic, where we provide thorough, evidence-based appointments up until 37 weeks. During this time, we support you with all aspects of your pregnancy, including ordering any desired ultrasounds and blood tests, prescribing medications when needed, and providing clear, balanced information about the screening and testing options available to you. We place a strong emphasis on education in early pregnancy, ensuring you feel informed, confident, and supported in your decisions.

From 37 weeks, your care transitions into your home, allowing us to continue supporting you in a more personal and familiar environment as you prepare for birth.

Postnatal care is provided entirely in your home for up to seven weeks after your baby is born. We support your physical recovery, emotional wellbeing, and feeding journey, offering guidance that is responsive to your individual needs as you adjust to life with your newborn.

This service is designed to meet you where you are—whether you’re seeking continuity throughout pregnancy and postpartum, or focused support during a specific stage of your journey.

Acuneedling

Acuneedling is a gentle, evidence-informed therapy offered by trained midwives to support women throughout pregnancy, birth preparation, and the postnatal period. Combining traditional acupuncture principles with modern midwifery knowledge, acuneedling is used to encourage balance within the body and promote overall wellbeing.

Our midwives are specially trained to provide safe, pregnancy-specific treatments tailored to your individual needs. Acuneedling may be used to support a range of common concerns, including preparation for labour, encouraging optimal baby positioning, easing musculoskeletal discomfort, and supporting relaxation.

In the later stages of pregnancy, acuneedling can also be used as part of natural labour preparation, working with your body to gently encourage the processes needed for birth.

Each session is provided in a calm, nurturing environment, where your comfort and safety are our priority. Your midwife will take the time to understand your pregnancy journey and create a personalised treatment plan that aligns with your preferences and care.

Acuneedling may assist with:

  • Back/hip/symphysis pubis pain & sciatica

  • Pre-birth treatment

  • Labour activation (in specific circumstances)

  • Postnatal mother warming – using moxabustion to aid recovery and healing

  • Milk-let down

  • Early intervention of mastitis.

  • Emotional concerns

  • Optimal positioning of baby

  • Breech babies (using Moxibustion & may increase success of ECV)

  • Nausea & vomiting

  • Heartburn

  • Constipation

  • Haemorrhoids/varicosities

  • Insomnia, itching

  • Thrush

One of the most common reasons women seek acuneedling is for pre-birth preparation and natural labour activation.

From around 36–37 weeks of pregnancy, regular acuneedling sessions can be used to gently support your body as it prepares for labour. These treatments are designed to encourage cervical ripening, support hormonal readiness, and promote optimal conditions for labour to begin when your body and baby are ready.

Your midwife uses specific, pregnancy-safe points to help:

  • Prepare the cervix for dilation

  • Encourage baby to settle into an optimal position

  • Support the natural release of oxytocin

  • Promote deep relaxation and reduce tension in the body

For women who are approaching or past their due date, acuneedling can also be used as a natural method of labour activation. Rather than forcing the body into labour, these treatments work in harmony with your physiology—gently stimulating the processes already underway.

Many women find these sessions not only physically supportive, but also grounding and calming during the final weeks of pregnancy.

Your midwife will guide you on the recommended timing and frequency of treatments, ensuring care is tailored to your individual pregnancy and birth preferences.

The protocol for pre-birth treatments is weekly from 37 weeks depending on your individual situation. It usually involves 20 minutes of treatment time (needles in) lying on your side or sitting on a chair. Once they’re in you can rest and relax.

Alongside acuneedling, we may incorporate complementary techniques such as acupressure and moxibustion to further support your body. Acupressure involves gentle, targeted pressure on specific points to enhance the effects of treatment, while moxibustion uses a warming herbal technique to stimulate circulation and promote balance.

Moxibustion may also be applied to specific points such as BL-67, traditionally used to help activate the uterus and encourage baby to move into—and remain in—an optimal position for birth.

All therapies are used safely within pregnancy, guided by your midwife and tailored to your individual needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Private midwifery care means you are supported by a known midwife or small team of midwives who walk alongside you through pregnancy, birth, and early postpartum.

At Nurture and Nourish, this means you are truly known to your care team. You don’t need to retell your story at every appointment or meet unfamiliar faces in labour — your care is continuous, familiar, and centred around you.

  • Yes. We offer planned home birth care for women with low-risk pregnancies across Tamworth and surrounding rural communities.

For women with low-risk pregnancies, planned home birth with an experienced midwife is supported by research as a safe option when appropriate screening, equipment, and clear transfer pathways are in place.

At Nurture and Nourish, we carefully assess eligibility for home birth and provide thorough preparation throughout your pregnancy. We attend your birth with appropriate emergency equipment and medications, and maintain clear, collaborative pathways with local hospitals should transfer ever be needed.

If home birth is the right option for you, you will be supported by two known midwives at your birth, providing calm, continuous care in your own space, with safety and respect guiding every step of your journey.

  • Yes, absolutely.

Many of the families we support choose hospital birth and still deeply value having a known midwife walking alongside them throughout pregnancy and the postnatal period.

Your Nurture and Nourish midwife also provides early labour support at home, helping you settle into labour in your own space with calm, continuous care. Families often choose this option to have a trusted midwife who knows them well, supports informed decision-making, and provides reassurance and guidance as labour begins.

We then continue this care into the hospital setting, attending as your known midwife, advocate, and continuous support person during your labour and birth. We stay by your side to support your choices, help communicate your preferences, and ensure you feel heard, safe, and respected within the hospital environment.

Our role is to provide continuity, calm, and familiar support — so even in hospital, you are not alone in your journey.

  • As Endorsed Midwives, we are able to offer Medicare-rebatable care for eligible services, particularly in the postnatal period.

This helps make private midwifery care more accessible for families. We will always take the time to talk you through fees and rebates clearly, so you feel informed and comfortable before beginning care.

  • We gently recommend booking early in pregnancy, as we take a limited number of families each month to ensure each woman receives true continuity of care.

If you are further along in your pregnancy, you are still welcome to reach out — we will always do our best to support you if we have availability.

  • Yes. We proudly support women and families across Tamworth and surrounding rural communities, as well as those living in other regional and remote areas.

For families who are not local, we also offer virtual midwifery appointments, including bulk-billed antenatal and postnatal consultations where eligible. This allows you to still access continuity of care, education, reassurance, and ongoing midwifery support no matter where you live.

Our goal is to ensure families in rural and regional areas can access safe, consistent, and compassionate midwifery care, even when distance makes in-person visits more challenging.

  • If you’re planning a home birth and transfer becomes necessary, this is always approached with care, calm, and clear communication.

At Nurture and Nourish, we carefully assess eligibility for home birth, provide thorough preparation during pregnancy, carry emergency equipment and medications, and maintain clear collaboration pathways with local hospitals should transfer ever be needed.

If a transfer does occur, your Nurture and Nourish midwife stays by your side. She continues to advocate for you, provide comfort measures, and support your choices, ensuring continuity even in a hospital setting.
