MEET OUR MIDWIVES

Hey, I’m Bec!

I’m a midwife, registered nurse, and mother, and I’m proud to be part of the team at Nurture and Nourish, supporting women and families across our community.

With over 14 years of experience working across rural and regional communities, my approach to midwifery is grounded in a deep respect for women, their autonomy, and their right to choose how and where they birth. I’m passionate about supporting women to feel safe, informed, and empowered — and about being part of a model of care that is expanding access, choice, and continuity for women in our region.

How I became a midwife

I have been a Registered Nurse for over 14 years, working across Australia in a range of rural and regional communities.

During that time, I witnessed many births from the sidelines — but it wasn’t until I stepped into midwifery that I truly understood the depth, power, and transformation of birth when women are genuinely supported.

I completed my midwifery training in Gunnedah and Tamworth, and I also hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Emergency Nursing.

Becoming a midwife allowed me to align my work with what I value most: family, autonomy, and supporting women to feel safe, informed, and empowered during one of the most significant moments of their lives.

My approach to home birth

Working in rural communities highlighted for me just how limited maternity care options can be outside metropolitan areas — and how often women feel pressured to accept care that doesn’t fully align with their needs or preferences.

These experiences shaped my commitment to supporting woman-centred care and informed choice.

When supported by trained and experienced midwives, home birth is a safe and evidence-based option. For many women, it is where they feel most calm, most in control, and most themselves.

I support home birth because I believe every woman deserves the opportunity to birth on her own terms — with continuity, trust, and genuine support.

Birth belongs to women — and every woman deserves real choice, support, and autonomy in how she births.

The most rewarding part

The most meaningful part of being a midwife is holding space for women in the quiet, powerful, and deeply transformative moments of birth.

Homebirth, in particular, offers something unique. It invites stillness, presence, and trust — allowing birth to unfold in its own rhythm, with the woman at the centre, not the system.

I have immersed myself in ongoing education focused on physiological birth and woman-led care, and I deeply value supporting birth that is calm, respectful, and informed.

While this is a newer chapter in my professional journey, it feels deeply aligned with who I am — both as a clinician and as a woman.

What to know about home birth

Every woman deserves to know that she is allowed to want more than just a “healthy baby.” She is also allowed to want a positive, supported, and empowering birth experience.

Homebirth is not the right choice for everyone — and that is okay. But it is a valid, safe, and evidence-based option for low-risk women.

With the support of trained midwives who trust in physiological birth, women do not need to fight for peace — it can be intentionally created and protected.

Birth can be calm. Birth can be supported. Birth can be yours.

Closing

It is an honour to be part of a practice that offers continuity of care, choice, and genuine support to women in our community.

I am deeply committed to walking alongside women as they birth on their terms — safely, supported, and with confidence.
